Home Idea & Gardening: Line Them Up in Style: Cost-Effective and Smart DIY Shoe Organizers

Now that spring is ever so slowly (at least, that’s how it feels where we live) on its way back to us, we’re finding that the spring cleaning bug is already biting us. Sure, we might be a little early on that, but it never hurts to get started a little bit in advance of the season if you’ve got the chance! That’s why we’ve been looking up some simple DIY organizational solutions for some of the things we feel have been cluttering our house. This week, we decided that our shoes will be our next project to tackle!

Just in case you need to get your shoes sorted and stored a little better just as badly as we do, if not more, here are 15 of the very best and most creative DIY shoe organizer concepts we’ve come across so far in our search.

1. Crown molding shoe rack

Are you the kind of person who wears a lot of high heels and doesn’t find them very simple to store on regular shelves because they’re always tipping and they can’t be stacked like flatter shoes? Well, so long as you’re handy with a drill (or at least some wall sticks), we think you might get along a little better with the way Genia Beme used crown molding with a bit of an edge to it to create ledges that heels can be hung from, all up the wall!

2. Shoe dresser

As part of your spring cleaning process, have you also been considering upcycling some of the old furniture pieces you’ve had lying around the house for a while? Then why not combine several different projects in one place and multitask a little bit with your creativity? We’re completely in love with the way Our House Now a Home turned this old dresser into a shoe organizer by taking the drawers out and adding a few extra shelves in that space.

3. PVC pipe organizer

Perhaps you’ve actually been looking for a shoe shelf idea that has a little more unique a style to it so it almost looks like decor but you’d still like to keep things decently simple as well? In that case, we think you’ll get a real kick out of the way Cookie Loves Milk made this awesome cylinder shaped stacked shelving out of cut sections of PVC pipes!

4. Shoe chest

If you’re going to make a DIY storage solution for all the shoes your family tends to accumulate at the front door, would you rather create one that’s a little more discreet and keeps them hidden away? Then we have a sneaking suspicion you’ll really appreciate the way Four Generations, One Roof put little shelves inside a chest to make some inner shoe storage that you can even sit on while you put your boots on.

5. Lazy Susan organizer

Are you actually convinced that your family has so many shoes that you couldn’t possibly keep them all on display and easily accessible on a straight forward shelf if you tried, since you simply don’t have the room? Then maybe you’d appreciate how space efficient this Lazy Susan style shelf outlined step by step on DIY n’ Crafts is! Their tutorial shows you precisely how to make the cubbies and put the pieces together so it turns smoothly and easily.

6. Cardboard shoe rack

8. Painted pallet rack

Well, we’ll admit that we’ve been on a bit of a kick in that regard too. That’s why we thought this altered and painted pallet show shelf that leans against the wall was such a neat idea. See how it’s done in more detail on Northern Feeling.
