Cotton can be a wonderful yarn for beginners as well – especially if you are starting in the warmer months. Not only because you probably don’t want to wear a wool jumper in April but mostly because your fingers will be slightly moist in high summer, and that will create a lot of friction when knitting wool.
What kind of yarn is not itchy?
Acrylic and microfiber yarns are synthetic, so they won’t irritate someone who has an allergy to animal-based products.
What is WW yarn?
Worsted weight yarn is a medium weight yarn that sits in the middle of the yarn weight family. It’s thicker than sock and sport weight and thinner than bulky weight yarn. Its medium thickness means that it’s great for knitting sweaters, hats, scarves, mittens, blankets and beyond!
What’s the difference between cotton and acrylic yarn?
Some types of cotton yarn can be challenging to work with, as it is fairly stiff and inelastic. However, it is great for holding its shape and produces a stiffer product. Due to it’s properties, cotton yarn is heat resistant and will not melt like acrylic yarn, so it is often used for potholders and hot pads.
Is Lopi yarn itchy?
Think Lopi is itchy? Lopi softens with washing and wearing—give your finished garment a bath in warm water with a little lanolin soap so the fibers will relax and soften. I use the brand Eucalan, which is available at my grocery store as well as at many local yarn shops, but there are several others.
